BOSTON, MA — July 21, 2025 — Tomorrow.io, the world’s leading Resilience Platform™, today announced a major breakthrough in satellite weather intelligence: its new microwave sounders deliver up to three times greater accuracy in temperature sensing and 20–30% improvements in humidity measurements compared to NASA’s TROPICS satellites. These enhancements provide sharper atmospheric insights – fueling more reliable, impact-based forecasting for organizations working to mitigate weather-related risks.
The findings come from a newly completed study that rigorously evaluated Tomorrow.io’s measurements against multiple benchmark sources, including government satellite data, reanalysis datasets, and radiosonde profiles. The most significant gains were observed in the temperature-sensing channels, which benefited from major technological upgrades, while the already high-performing humidity channels saw further refinement. Together, these improvements mark a critical step toward narrowing the gap between commercial and government-grade weather sensing capabilities.
“This is the foundation of real-time global forecasting for business continuity,” said Dr. Arun Chawla, Chief Scientist at Tomorrow.io. “The precision of these on-orbit measurements – and the fact that we can deliver them in a commercial model – has game-changing implications for industries managing operational risk from weather.”
A recent overpass of Tropical Storm Erick illustrates the impact. While traditional infrared imagery showed a nondescript cloud mass, Tomorrow.io’s microwave data revealed a nascent eyewall structure, offering early signs of intensification. That level of detail, globally and in near real time, is what unlocks next-generation forecasting.
“Storms don’t wait for twelve-hour satellite windows or favorable conditions on the ground,” said Shimon Elkabetz, CEO and Co-founder of Tomorrow.io. “With our own space infrastructure, we’re delivering enterprise-grade weather intelligence from anywhere in the world, as it happens.”
The findings were submitted for peer review to the Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology. The paper validates the performance of Tomorrow.io’s calibration and data processing system, and lays the groundwork for widespread commercial use of its satellite data.
