We have a winner!
Tomorrow.io is thrilled about the Tomorrow.io Weather API Scholarship.
After receiving many outstanding submissions, we’re pleased to announce this year’s winner.
Tomorrow.io Weather API Scholarship Winner 2023
Drumroll, please…
Congratulations to James Slattery at the University of Chicago!
James wowed us with his innovative idea to create an application called Gaia, which aims to serve as an analysis tool to allow military commanders to rapidly evaluate all the weather implications of an upcoming battle or operation.
“This project is at the intersection of using weather data to save lives (and take them), and Generative AI as an analysis agent. Gaia leverages the latest technologies and prompt engineering for data analysis while providing raw data in an easy-to-use interactive graph,” says James.
“This is a tool that I have shown to Marine Corps infantry personnel, and there is a demand and product market fit for rapid weather analysis in the battle space. This project takes the Tomorrow.io data and leverages it to solve a real problem with real users with real impact.”
Check out a demo of James’ project below.
As this year’s scholarship winner, James will receive a $3,000 scholarship award to support his MBA studies at UChicago. He brings a unique perspective as both a student researcher and a member of the USMC.
James stood out for his ability to maximize the potential of the Tomorrow.io Weather API to solve real-world problems.
Weather API In Real Life
We want to thank all the applicants who participated and submitted projects over the past couple of months. The creativity and technical skills shown were truly impressive.
While there could only be one winner, we were inspired by the submissions and know the future is bright for these students.
Tomorrow.io team looks forward to working with James as he continues to develop “Gaia.”
We have no doubt this scholarship will empower something remarkable that shows the power of weather data for social good.
Please join us in congratulating James Slattery on becoming the recipient of the inaugural Tomorrow.io Weather API Scholarship!
