BOSTON, MA — August 26, 2025 — The Tomorrow Companies today announced powerful results from a two-year Digital Weather Advisory Service (DWAS) pilot in Kenya, conducted in partnership with One Acre Fund, one of Africa’s largest farmer-facing organizations. Powered by Tomorrow.io’s hyperlocal weather intelligence, and with farmer-facing expertise from its nonprofit partner TomorrowNow.org, the study found that forecasts delivered via SMS to smallholder farmers increased yields by 12% relative to control, demonstrating the transformative power of weather intelligence in improving food security.
The randomized controlled trial covered nearly 10,000 farmers across five regions and tested three forecast delivery models. The Weekly + Daily design, powered by Tomorrow.io’s hyperlocal forecasts, achieved a statistically significant 12% average yield increase and performed best among all treatments. Farmers also reported strong satisfaction with the service: 88% found the forecasts easy to understand and accurate, and 72% said they would recommend it to peers. With SMS delivery costs at just $0.56 per farmer, the Weekly + Daily model is among the most cost-effective agricultural interventions ever measured by One Acre Fund.
“This study is the ultimate proof that getting the right forecast to the right person at the right time drives measurable impact all the way to the farm gate,” said Rei Goffer, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Tomorrow.io. “Weather intelligence isn’t just about predicting storms – it’s about unlocking better decisions that directly improve livelihoods. These results confirm that with scale, we can help millions of farmers adapt and thrive.”
“This study proves that climate resilience solutions can reach the last mile. By pairing Tomorrow.io’s breakthrough technology with our expertise in weather advisory across the African continent, we’ve shown that millions of smallholder farmers can access actionable, livelihood-enhancing weather intelligence and thrive in the face of climate change,” said Wanjeri Mbugua, CEO at TomorrowNow.org.
Hyperlocal precision is driven by Tomorrow.io’s proprietary modeling and will soon incorporate data from our first-of-its-kind global satellite constellation, which fills critical data gaps in remote regions like Africa. Already trusted by multiple U.S. federal agencies, it was most recently validated by the U.S. Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation (JCSDA) – a collaboration between NOAA, NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Navy.
“Our mission is to help farmers grow more and earn more, even in the face of increasing climate uncertainty,” said Alex Sananka, Data Science Manager at One Acre Fund. “These results show that when farmers have timely, accurate weather information they can trust, they make better decisions that lead to higher yields, greater resilience, and stronger communities.”
The organizations are now exploring pathways to scale the service to millions of farmers, tailoring delivery for local language and comprehension needs to ensure equitable access across all regions.
